What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is both a physical exercise philosophy and a competitive fitness sport, incorporating elements from high intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and cardio. It can be used to accomplish any goal, from improved health to better performance.

The community

The accountability that a CrossFit community gives you is a key element to success. Not only are we, as coaches, committed to your overall well being, but your class mates and other members are too! CrossFit is loads of fun and made even more fun by sharing it with friends.

To begin

After your first free session, we will make a plan to get you ready for classes. This is likely to mean going through the fundamentals. This is a short series of 1-2-1 coaching that teaches you the basic core movements of CrossFit. These are designed to give you the knowledge of the movements, but not necessarily the ability. With CrossFit you play the long game, but is it worth it!

The classes

We use carefully selected and planned classes and workouts to keep your body moving well. No 2 days are the same, and that is part of the fun! You never quite know what you’ll be doing when you walk through the door. However, each session is not randomly picked out of a hat. We follow programming that’s planned, varied and functional.

CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity. Each class is also lead through by an experienced coach that is committed to your long term fitness.

    Derek

    I’m Derek and I’m the founder and owner of CrossFit Bosham. 

    I’ve been coaching sport for about 25 years and coaching CrossFit since 2019.

    I love CrossFit! I love doing it, I love coaching it and I love running a CrossFit gym. 

    What I love about it is that there’s always more in CrossFit… more to learn, new PBs, new movements, new people, new challenges.

    The people are by far the best part of it! Seeing people develop and grow in fitness and health but also mentally as they consistently push themselves through tough workouts. Plus, I get to meet lots of new people, everyone who walks through the gym is a potential new friend!

    I’m 31 years of age and addicted to fitness… that pretty much covers it!

    I have over 10 years’ experience in the coaching industry, personal training, group training, health & wellness coaching & personal programming.

    I've been an avid CrossFitter for 7 years now, building from a leisurely hobby to a competitor; a Crossfit Coach for 5 years, and played football competitively for 14 years of my 31. 

    My side hobby and passion is golf, so if you see me swinging a PVC pipe or dowel in the gym like a golf club…that’s why!

    I’ve been a competitive CrossFitter now for 3 years and have been coaching for what feels like forever (10+ years). For me exercise started with high level basketball and then became strength & conditioning within the gym, this took me down many paths; bodybuilding, powerlifting etc. to finally landing me at my home – CrossFit.

    I always felt other training systems had something missing, I wanted to be able to do everything, that’s where I found the love for CrossFit.

    Being able to lift heavy, move quick(ish) and do cool gymnastics is my jam!

    And I’m very excited to have joined the CrossFit Bosham community, helping people to achieve great things that they probably never thought possible, all while living a healthier, longer life as a result!

    Having served 17 years in the Army, fitness has always been a big passion of mine. I swam from the age of 6 - 18 years old, joined the Army and continued with this. During my time in the Army I competed in football, cross country, rugby, hockey, netball, road cycling, British Warrior Fitness (to name but a few) to Army level and combined service level Powerlifting, TOW, Biathlon, and rowing. My greatest success was being selected for GB trial for Nordic Skiing. 

    I’ve been a Bootcamp Instructor and small group PT for 8 years. I qualified as a Personal Trainer in March 2022, giving me the extra knowledge needed to continue with this fitness journey. 

    My aim is to take you all out of your comfort zone, to make you feel empowered, push your limits and feel amazing at the end!

    Hey, I’m Coni, I’ve been playing competitive sport since I can remember but started CrossFit in 2022 because of a shoulder injury that needed strengthening.

    I’ve been coaching since January 2022 and completed my CrossFit Level 1 in January 2023

    I love being on the coaching team at CrossFit Bosham because it feels like family.

    I head up the kids and teens programme and I’m passionate about introducing people to CrossFit from an early age and getting them moving well and having A LOT of fun while they’re doing it!

    Personally, I want to see how far I can go in this sport so you’ll find me training hard in between coaching classes.

    I started my sporting life in gymnastics where I trained and competed from age 3-15 making it all the way to the elite stage as part of Team GB. Alongside gymnastics, I was always taking part in every sport I could, swimming, equestrian, netball, rugby, and running (even completing a few marathons). After a gymnastics injury, I took a few years out from sport (6 years in fact) but eventually realised I missed exercise and slowly started going to the gym… CrossFit was a natural progression given that it encompassed so many of the sports I already loved and I haven’t looked back since I started 3 years ago.

    I coached gymnastics for 6 years before joining CrossFit Bosham to help with the kids programme and with the gymnastics, stretching and mobility classes.

    I’m super passionate about CrossFit and fitness being available to everyone and being a part of a healthy lifestyle!

    You’ll usually find me in the gym doing a handstand so feel free to come and say hi!

    Crossfit has made me enjoy going to the gym! Before joining CrossFit I found gyms intimidating, not anymore! I started my CrossFit journey over 1 year ago and I haven’t looked back, excellent coaching and a supportive community means I am enjoying seeing what it can do for my body and mind. I have achieved things I never thought possible, turning 40 this year, I have felt stronger and fitter than I ever have, thanks to CrossFit!

    I have experience working with people and their bodies since 2005. I qualified as an Occupational Therapist and worked in stroke rehab for 13 years. Following a short break to have children, I retrained as a personal trainer and fitness instructor in 2021. I wanted to make exercise accessible for all. After having children the benefits of keeping active have been so important to me, it has become a way of life. I came from a background of finding it all scary! I have seen firsthand how important and beneficial it is to get into good exercise habits and my purpose of retraining has been to help those who may feel that exercise isn’t for them and help them reap the benefits.

    I have been taking circuits classes and working with clients for two years and I love my job! Seeing people achieve their goals and enjoy exercise and all its benefits is a real highlight! I have just completed my Level 1 CrossFit coach qualification and can’t wait to help people achieve their goals.

    In my spare time, I am spending time with my husband and three boys, which often includes some sort of sport or activity. We love walking, cycling, or running into the downs as a family or spending time on the water. Crossfit has meant I have no trouble keeping up or even overtaking the boys!
